In mechanistic modeling of cutting forces in turning, identification of cutting force coefficients and edge coefficients through experiments are very much essential. these coefficients can be determined by regression analysis but in a few cases, the edge coefficients come out to be a negative value so can anyone tell me the physical meaning for this negative value of edge coefficients.
The regression coefficients which you received may have incorrect signs, which often happens in the presence of multicollinearity. Its presence can be determined by calculating the variance inflation factor (VIF).
Another possible reason may be that the real relationship is nonlinear.

The negative edge coefficient is nothing but the y-intercept. But is there any physical meaning for this negative y-intercept? @Anatoly Gordinsky

I believe that before giving a physical interpretation of the model, its adequacy should be confirmed. To the two pitfalls indicated above, I will add the possible loss of a certain predictor(s), insufficient size of sample and accuracy of X, Y measurement.
