I synthesized hydroxyapatite nanorods by hydrothermal method and I have controlled the initial ratio of Ca (1M) And P (0.6M) but the ca\p ratio is 1.21 (EDAX analysis). Does anyone know why this happpened?
Negar Shokouhnejad Does your EDAX analysis show the presence of any other possible impurities? It is at times possible depending upon your synthesis duration and the solvents used that a phase pure HAP has not been formed. sometimes secondary phases like dicalcium phosphorous dihyrate or calcium oxide might have resulted.
Thank you for your valuable answer Samhita Pappu . Oxygen, phosphorous and Calcium were present in my EDAX analysis and i used deionized water as my solvent. @Samhita Pappu
Thank you for your precious answer Aidin Bordbar-Khiabani . Igot two points in my EDAX analysis and the results were 20 and 21. @ Aidin Bordbar-Khiabani
EDS analysis is not an accurate method for measuring the composition. It is easily affected by surrounding elements and phases. You better use TEM(+SAED)/XRD/XPS to confirm your results. Moreover, HA is not the only Ca/P phase which it forms by Ca and P; there are several compounds based upon these elements that may have formed.
