I am trying to use MrBayes for the first time. I have downloaded and installed the MrBayes Directory to my Mac using HomeBrew. The directory seems to have all component files including the example files such as Primates.nex. MrBayes opens as expected with the terminal command "mb" However, when I type "execute Primates.nex" I get the following:
MrBayes > exe Primates.nex
Executing file "Primates.nex"
Could not open file "Primates.nex"
Returning execution to command line ...
Error in command "Execute"
What am I doing wrong? Help would be appreciated.
before I start the MrBayes program, if I didn't cd (change directory) to the folder that contains primates.nex and simply input exe primates.nex
I will also se the same error as you had.
Would you try one of the below:
(1) cd to the folder/directory where you store the primates.nex before you start MrBayes with mb
(2) exe /the/full/path/to/your/primates.nex
as my terminal allows me to drag a file from Finder to Terminal and it becomes the full path, the full path method might help sometimes!
Thank you so much for your answer as it solved my problem. I did not know that simply dragging the file from its directory to the Terminal would input the full path. I had tried inputting the file directly with no path and also with many partial paths that did not work. Thanks again.
