It is complex and intriguing how human memory works. How does our brain absorb information and files it away for retrieval? Why we remember small things but can forget more significant ones (like wedding anniversaries)?
The human brain is busy in gaining the new experiences. This will be at the expense of past events. So after a period of time, it does not remain from the past except the very little events, whether sad or happy.
Forgetfulness is a blessing and gift from God (the Great Creator), so that we can go on with our lives
Imagine that you do not forget any abuse or harm from others then how you will live with people?!!!.
In general terms, it can be said that what we consciously remember is that which demanded great attention or concentration and which had content that we could understand. Positive or negative situations, but relatively reasonable ones that do not have emotionally confusing or contradictory content.
-Memories with emotional content last longer but are subject to alteration, that is ten years after an event, the feelings remain but the actual event or events have changed. Other than that, the memory is a muscle of sorts that is the more used the better it is.0

I suspect (I've forgotten a lot of what I once learnt about memory-ironic) that there are two different kinds of memory involved-one to do with day to day low intensity events and others based on high intensity involving relationships. The memory employed to count or memorise maths seems of a different kind to ones based on social events.
💡⚙️⚙️Long ago, I read in a book “Chasing Life“ by Sanjay Gupta that we store information very much like a filing system. We keep mental labels for files and drawers of memory. in case of too much information, we have to delete less important ones. Moments that are tied with special memories are labeled bigger. So that is why special events and moments tied to them are remembered and non important time slots get no tag. They are not remembered.
The stronger the feelings of some special moments; the deeper they are stored in our mind and therefore the more we remember them. Sometimes we forget the date but we also forget what were we wearing. It all depends how things are related to the feelings of that moment.
