To be honest with you , I don’t know the exact scientific fact behind it but very much known a concrete fact , happy minds learn and keep the knowledge long time....I will be following this very interesting topic....many thanks for sharing Rumani Dey , much appreciated 👍
Ya but there must be a scientific reason behind why the suffering is not welcomed by nature. The suffering itself is knowledge enough to mask more knowledge. Whenever I try to learn a new concept I can't concentrate. All sorts of insecurity and sad memories engulf me.
Irony is that the happy mind fights for happiness and becomes successful in life. We are angry, impatient, intolerant and so we can learn. But the fucked up mind always feels bad. This is injustice I feel as part of nature. Questions are many with no answers.
Like for example scientists can't learn. Their minds invent new knowledge. Old knowledge can be used but can't be acceptable by them cause invention is a fresh perspective. But why?
When you are happy, you are relaxed. When you are relaxed, you think better! Hormonal changes help boost enhance your cognitive skills (i.e., serotonin, dopamine)
Happy minded means (open minded), who mandates his life to God. They always forgive and merciful compassionate with the others and optimistic. All of this personal traits make them learn fast and easily.
Security and peace of mind are important factors in the learning process. Enlightenment and intellectual growth flourish maximally if the life we live is meaningful and replete with personal joy, passion, and profound reverence for things that are morally right. Only then, the conditions for optimal learning are provided.
Happy mind is free from all ambiguities, pleasant, positive approach having no negative thinking, confident that one can understand and having a good spirit which makes us to learn fast. Whereas the unhappiness creates disturbance to mind and doesn't allow to concentrate.
Actually, the relationship between happiness and learning is to the opposite of the question's sense. In fact, our brain rewards us with a feeling of happiness when we learn something new. this feeling is generally generated by the release of some hormones such as "Dopamine".
(see this study: Gruber M, Gelman B, Ranganath C. “States of Curiosity Modulate Hippocampus-Dependent Learning via the Dopaminergic Circuit.” Neuron. 2014.)
It is in the brain that the Dopamine is released. Dopamine, is the hormone of "reward" that makes people addicted to coffee, cigarettes or drugs. It is a powerful hormone that can be released naturally (without these drugs) by the brain. This happens especially when we learn something new... immediately we feel happy. this is the reward that our brain gives us. We tend to retain the new knowledge gained better when it is linked to an emotion. whether a happy or a sad emotion, if it happens during our learning process, it makes the information sticks longer in our memory.
Actually there are several hormones that are released by the brain to make us fell happy. We spoke about dopamine = reward, there is also
Serotonin + Estrogen = good mood
Progesterone + Estrogen = good sleep
Oxytocin = generated from feelings of love and when we connect with loved ones
Endorphins: pain and stress relief, they are released after physical exercise. They are called: the "Runner’s high"
The collaboration of all these substances and mechanisms make us feel happy and reduce our feelings of stress, anxiety and sadness.
To conclude, when we learn we feel happy. If we feel happy while learning we keep the new information longer and we use it better, this will trigger more pleasure from learning and so on. It is a virtuous circle that starts from... the curiosity to learn new things...
This virtuous circle happens only when we are emotionally balanced.
Being content puts one at ease and makes the person open to learning. There is a Buddhist saying, "When the student is ready, the teacher appears." From a western psychology standpoint Maslow's hierarchy of needs come to my mind. A person who has all the basic needs met is ready for "self-actualization" which includes learning.
