I was using blood collection tubes without additives to extract serum samples from whole blood without complain.. but recently is started using collection tubes without additives by Junnou brand. Centrifuged at 20,000 rpm for 15 mins. But, I ended up getting just yellow serum and bottom layer of RBCs. The supposed yellow serum at the top had slight gel consistency but no clot. The image shows clear serum like substance after centrifuging the tubes kept in ice boxes. When aliquoted into Eppendorf tubes, it tends to form a gel immediately, which is NOT Normal.

I even kept the tubes out for 30 mins, allowing the blood to clot naturally and then centrifuged. But still ended up with the same result, but with better clotting. However, when we vortex the Eppendorf tubes, then serum and clot separates. But this was wasting the quantity of the serum.

Any idea, why the serum samples are clotting in the Eppendorf tubes?
