Hi all,

It is common sense that cationic amphiphiles are toxic. This is true for cationic detergents, lipids and aggregates such as micelles and liposomes. This is also true com complexes with nanoparticles and oligonucleotides.

However, although this is "common sense", I am not aware of a thorough study, especially on the cellular/molecular level, of why cationic amphiphilic molecules are toxic?

Are they more disruptive on the membrane level? Do they change cell metabolism? etc...

I would be happy if you could give me a relatively detailed explanation and if you had nice literature to share.

Kind regards,

Rafael
