I have run a 3 point bending test on a Al-Zn binary alloy. The alloy is Al based and Zn is the alloying element. It is noticed that the values of bending strength decreases as percentage of Zn increases.
Perhaps britlle Al-Zn intermetallics precipitating on Grain boundary, making it more brittle by forcing intergranular failure?
