I developed a web service and 250 machines working with it, and i did'nt have any problem with the system, but we found a problem with a machine that doesn't work with the web service. I developed a test program and i found that the machine make the request to the web service but this web service doesn't respond to this machine. This machine is windows xp.
In my opinion, the most probable cause is that this machine uses Browser that doesn't work correctly. Before I had such problem with ResearchGate: I called the ResearchGate using "Google Chrome" Browser that didn't work correctly. I received the following response from the ResearcGate team on my inquiry: "Thank you for contacting us. You have not been blocked this is an issue with either your server or our site. Could you please let us know which browser and it's version that you are using and if you are using a Mac or a PC".
Then I used other Browser on my Windows XP, and once my problem was solved.
I make trials with that machine and i can invoke de web service with the brower and i can see the methods but i can't invoke the methods because that way only work in the same machine that the web service is installed . I have the problem when an application invoke some of this methods. The application produce a timeout exception in the web response.
You may want to take a look at whether the web services require any form of authentication.
It would help if you can mention about what you are using for developing the web services. If you are using the Windows Communication Foundation (WCF) of the .NET framework, there are some settings that you can make to determine the type of authentication that needs to be performed. If you are using a custom PHP script, then perhaps you might want to analyze the source code or check if there is a proxy server or DNS server that differs between the clients that can access the web service and the client that cannot access the web server. The access and error logs would help in determining what is occurring.
