We are seeking a practical LIMS to manage fungal and bacterial strains, plant seeds, plasmids, and other biological material which accumulated in our lab over the years. Its operation should be user friendly and allow easy retrieval of each specimen including multi-dimensional information. Please only suggest what you have used yourself. There are many off the shelf (proprietary) LIMS that can be purchased as well open-source LIMS/LIMS functionality in a HIS. Some details for off-the-shefl LIMS can be obtained from www.limsfinder.com/. It also seems that you would need a system that can manage a bio-repository. We have previously used LDMS (https://www.fstrf.org/apps/cfmx/apps/ldms/ldmsPublic/index.cfm) for clinical trials. However, most newer LIMS should include this functionality.
