Who is working with questioned document examination (QDE) and spectroscopy for historical documents? Main goal: create a typology of historical ink, paper for an inspection for identification of non original rewrites, remakes, falsiciation, etc.
Dear Tadas, we have recently conducted some spectroscopic investigations of paper materials and inks with photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The main goal was the question wether or not it is possible to differenciate different inks from ink-jet printers - the answer is, that there are differences in terms of the elemental composition and the chemical bond of the different inks and papers that we have investigated, but a straightforward differentiation is difficult. In this paper we summarize the characterization of about 15 samples, in the meantime, we have measured around 50 or 60 different samples on different instruments, and there are some visible trends already in the early publication. Also check the references, there are some groups in Sweden and Canada working on those topics.
But, XPS (as well as X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy and more elaborated X-ray techniques) may help and give additional information compared to the standard techniques that were applied in the past (such as raman spectroscopy, UV-Vis, luminescence etc.
Thank You very much indeed! I am quite new in this field so I will cooperate with specialist, but I will definitely check these. In our lab we just bought CRAIC 308 PV
