My lab is currently looking at creating a custom antibody. There aren't a lot of customer reviews on the websites for these things, so what are the companies that you all prefer to synthesize your custom antibodies? Price & quality are my PI's biggest concerns. Monoclonal or polyclonal is fine.
Update: Our antigen is nicastrin. I know monoclonal will be more expensive - when I said either is fine, I'm just looking for your personal thoughts about and experiences with custom antibody providers, so that we can use the company that seems to be most well-reviewed by the scientific community.
Epitomics (Burlingame, CA) did a great job helping us develop rabbit monoclonals. They were recently acquired by Abcam. The price for monoclonal will be much higher than polyclonal no matter where you go. Much more work goes into screening and selection. We make our own rabbit polyclonals in house, but it is becoming cheaper to contract out.
What is your antigen? That may help you decide which species (camel and llama antibodies are gaining popularity due to advantages of their unique, single chain Abs) to immunize.
First of all you should be clear about the type antigens you are interested to generate the antibodies. In this case specialization is more important that you are working on plant or animal or human related antigens. If you give your specific requirement then it will be easy to get/provide information for antibody generation regarding relevant companies or institutions or Universities which are working in similar specialization or technologies. Broadly companies such as Americantype Culture collection, Ab-Cam, Sigma-Aldrich, Europa-bioproducts are few companies.
