I don't think cat feces will be any different for DNA isolation from human feces. We used with good results the following:
Homogene preparation of the sample use Bertin SK 38 Soil Kit Bead tubes and use this sample diluted for total DNA, RNA isolation. ( We used the QiaSymphony with the virus/bacteria minikit) You can than cover bacteria virusses and parasites if neccesairy. If you need more information please ask.
I agree with Tanny van der Reijden, there should be no difference. But it is very important that you do not use too much of the fecal matter or els you will encounter PCR-inhibition to due overload on contamination. I would suggest no more than 1mg (or use a small ose) per 1ml of lysisbuffer. Do not forget to vortex. In order to get optimum results, I also suggest to introduce a single round of freeze/thaw to your sample by freezing at -80C overnight an heating the next day at 95C for 15 minutes.
the PureLink microbiome DNA purification kit works for cat stool as well as many other types (mouse, rat, dog, human etc), yields up to 10 ug from 0.2 g
