Thermoelectric materials are characterized into three types based on thermoelectric performance with temperature, which are room temperature (BiSbTe based), middle temperature (TAGS, Zn4Sb3, MnSi etc.), and high-temperature (SiGe, La3Te4 etc.) thermoelectrics. The research work on thermoelectrics are well established and optimized, you can find lots of information in the literature.  The figure of merit is directly proportional to electrical conductivity, Seebeck coefficient and inversely proportional to thermal conductivity. These parameters are strongly interrelated. The decoupling of this interdependency is the challenging task. However, the nanostructuring approach is acceptable for enhancing the figure of merit.
