Two good options for serological diagnosis of Q fever are ELISA and IFA. Which one is more reliable and convenient? Is there any species (Human,Cattle,Goat etc) specificity for diagnostic procedure?
I used fluorescein labeled C.burnetii for diagnosis of Q fever in human and animal. IFA is reliable and convenient for serological diagnosis of Q fever and human ,cattle, goat,, sheep and wild rodent are susceptible for infection.
IFA is probably the way to go for seroprevalence research. For in-depth analyses of exposure to Coxiella burnetii, also when antibodies may have reduced below detection level, the new interferon-gamma release assay for Coxiella may be helpful.
Although ELISA is widely used method for diagnosis due to its ease in performance but IFA is considered as a gold standard. So better to screen with both ELISA and IFA to get accurate diagnosis. If you require to select one then go with IFA.
