It seems to me that they are still in early stage. I have seen examples in which Anura3D has already been used in the geotechnical field. My advice is to write to some components of the groups of works that collaborate in the development of these software, so you can understand the current stage of development and listen to their ratings and suggestions. Being you in the university, they could help you.

The biggest problem is that MPM currently does not have a strong theoretical underpinnings like FEM so many researchers demonstrate that sometimes MPM solutions do not converge so.

Anura3D is designed particularly for geotechnical engineering. I haven't use that and it is comercial software so I cannot look at the code to undertand it.

When I search for a software, I look at the developer team behind and see how many users use it for practical problems. And here I found Uintah as they have long-term commitment and quite decent community. Besides, it is open source so you can really look at the code to understand the algorithm and so on.

I recomend you to use Anura 3D. Our code is not open source, but we can generate executables for you to use. If you want to manipulate the code, then you can ask any member of the Anura 3D comunity for it.

As Lei pointed out above, Anura is not a comercial software, so it is free!!

Could you be more specific on what issue that you would like to apply the MPM code. Some of the codes may not have the constitutive model you need. Meanwhile if you want to conduct simulation that involves high speed impact or vibration the best chose would also be different. The formula of MPM for example whether it is more suitable to use explicit or implicate method, what formula or solver you need and what is the boundary condition you want to apply. You have to narrow these things down. I do have couple of choices and codes for you but please be more specific on your needs.

With regards to what Yupeng Jiang said, Anura uses a explicit scheme, it can solve coupled systems (up to 3 phases), and we have different integration schemes.

Thank you for your answers Yupeng Jiang Luis Zambrano . I would like to simulate the flow like behavior of sands (soils) under certain circumstances, e.g. landslides. However, I don't have much programming skills, I may be able to do only basic interpretations.

In that case, what you may need is explicit MPM with Drucker-prager constitutive model (instead of Morh-Coulomb). I think the codes from Luis Zambrano should be good enough for you to simulate multi-phase (unsaturated soil) media or simply add cohesive force in the D-p model. Since you do not have a strong motivation to start from a relatively bottom level of MPM, the codes I have may not be very good choice for you.
