Organic compounds are variously used in the industrial processes. Among them, phenols are the major group of compounds that cause serious toxic effects on organisms and environment. Therefore, it is necessary to know the nature and characteristics of organic pollutants in natural environments. For this, generally extraction is performed to isolate the organic pollutants from wastewater. Polar solvents like, acetone, ethyl acetate, diethyl ether can be used. Mixed solvents with different ratios can also be sued. It is better to make a standard curve the percentage of recovery using different polar solvent with different ratios. It has to be standardized.

generally all polar solvents work well, with slight differences depending on the matrix.

One of the best solvents for phenol extraction will be dichloromethane. But phenol can also be extracted using various alcohols, alkanes, ketones, MIBK, toluene etc. Besides, there are various extractants such as TOPO, TBP which are very effective in phenol extraction.
