I want to use organic solvent instead of water for the synthesis of Hydrogel.
Perhaps you can use the inverse emulsion or suspension or you want to synthesise organosole? which one? I think it is unclear but you can use toluene for organic phase.
I want to synthesis simple hydrgel in volatile solvent so that I can easily evaporate it.
I have found some work in THF and ethanol for the hydrogel production. and both are volatile, easy to evaporate. Thanks for your help.
Normally, we use water for hydrogel synthesis. Then, the gel is soak in methanol, to remove the water.
1. Toluene
2. Xylene
3. Cyclohexane
4. Isooctane
You can synthesize hydrogels with these solvents and evaporate them easily.
Which organic solvent ? Whatever, provided that your polymer is soluble in it. But indeed, it won't be a true hydrogel. If the solvent is an alcohol, then it will be called an alcogel. But sincerely, it doesn't change much, except that the drying will not lead exactly to the same material.
