I am trying dilute synthesis technique with APS and TEMED for free radical polymerization in water. Either it is very slow or it is not working. Which technique is better emulsion or dilute solution synthesis ?
You have used water soluble initiator APS with catalyst TEMED and PEG monomer to form PEG nanoparticles. I think you need to use a suitable cross-linker. In addition, insure the polymerization temperature is above 60 degrees C, oxygen free inert conditions, with stirring, the formed PEG-polymer also soluble in water. Therefore, you need to precipitate and careful purification of the product to a suitable solvent.
I varied PEG from 1 to 10 mg/ml with 2wt% APS and TEMED(APS/3)... PEGDA should crosslinked to itself without the need of a crosslinker in the system. I think I do need to bubble the oxygen out of the water. I was trying to find some literature on polymer NPs synthesis. But looks like everyone coated the metal NPs with polymer and didnt synthesis the polymer NPs.
