Perhaps the question would be better phrased with the word 'parent' instead of 'father'? Rare family that has a father as a single parent - some; but relatively few.

A researcher will already have respect in their field due to their level of understanding and immersion in their chosen area of expertise. A parent has to earn respect from their children without having any 'qualifications' in parenting.

So for even the most distinguished academic; they are beginners at parenthood with each child.

As the father of 4 sons, I can tell you it is difficult to not get caught up in your research and teaching and ignore what is most important. Take the time to be there for your children. Mohammed was right. A father is a teacher. So is a mother. Just as you teach your students, what do you want your children to be? Remember, they are only little once. Be in their lives. Go to their sporting events and other activities to support them. You will be glad you did latter. My sons are all grown now. Three went into the army and one went into the marines. They all graduated from high school and two from college or university (the other two are currently going). I try and spend as much time as I can with my granddaughters. Children are God's gift to you. Don't waste it.

Thank you for asking the question! It seem like for too long, it was women who had to worry about combining work and raising a family. The truth is that each one of us make decisions that work best. But children are only young for such a short time, so I have to agree with Greg. Never forget the power of being a role model for your children. Show them how you love your work and how it iis an important part of being a human being , but never forget to enjoy the time you spend with them. Gold in the bank!

when we have touched the parents in the line with teaching & the research it becomes the important for the participant as in the line of education he keeps the image of the parents in his mind which may become a source of inspiration to his career whether it may teaching or the research .

Child takes a fruitful advice from the parents for his childhood which becomes a fruitful guideline for his study & other activities which may remain a guiding source for his betterment of a career , it is this progressive development in his life parent have become a guideline for him where he offers his contribution in his teaching & research in his career development .
