I have no idea about DVDWT except that it is a diffuse interface model. I want to know pros and cons of using it over standard free surface models such as CLSVOF ?
I was going through a recent PRE publication titled " Xu, X., Qian, T, (2014), single-bubble dynamics in pool boiling of one-component fluids " wherein authors used DVDWT model for studying boiling. They said that it is a diffuse-interface model.

While I am not familiar with DVDWT, I know CLSVOF well. My PhD thesis (Morgan 2005) used the CLSVOF approach to model pool boiling. I highly recommend using a sharp interface method like VOF or CLSVOF for modeling multi-material or multiphase flows. A sharp interface approach preserves the discontinuous physical properties across the interface. For boiling water, the density can be 1000x different between the liquid and vapor phases. Without a sharp interface approach, the density discontinuity can be smeared over many, many cells. Please keep in mind that the thermal conductivity, specific heat, etc. have large discontinuities across the liquid-vapor interface. I admit that my response does not address the DVDWT approach, but I hope that I adequately highlighted why I and others rely on sharp interface methods for modeling multi-material or multiphase flows.
