In my opinion, both affect the scientific level of the researcher but the effect may be positive in some cases not negative. For example, a superiority complex may prompt the researcher to do more to satisfy himself and "stay ahead".

I think between the two thingst

Inferiority complex is not common in the researchers community as- generally speaking- researchers are highly qualified subjects! However, superiority feeling is much more common and I think it can kill the creativity of any researcher and stops his/ her ambitions as such kind of people would rather feel that he/ she stands on the apex while he/ she may have not reached it yet! and may not do throughout life!

Mental stagnation has the most serious deterioration effect.

I do not see a big ego as denoting big talent. This seems to be the common view here which I found extraordinary. Such people, requiring continuous attention, drain those around them, siphoning away ideas. High intelligence and large egos for me are incompatible. Ideas are everything, egos nothing.

The oscillation between “I’m better than others” and “I’m not good enough” is a kind of noise made by your ego maintenance machinery. It’s meaningless. But, the fact that you take this noise seriously, and believe that maybe it’s telling the truth some of the time, indicates that you’re not clear about who you are.

The machine that’s making this noise is not able to tell you who you are, that’s why it thrashes around between extremes. It’s trying to figure out who you are, but it has nothing reliable to act as a reference — there’s evidence for both viewpoints, yes? Some days you’re the pigeon, and some days you’re the statue.

True self is not some concept which can be compared to assess your value. True self is beyond all such concepts, it transcends concepts and images and narratives of self.

If you imagine that your ego is like a box, and your mind is walking around looking at the box from different angles, it is trying to figure out “what sort of box is this, and are the contents good or bad?” But that’s the wrong question, because you aren’t the box in the first place. You’re more like the space around the box, extending out infinitely in all directions. That’s not something which can be assessed by the box-comparator.

I think both may impact researchers.

The main reason is the quality and outlook of the administrators and decision takers.

In the developing countries like India, it is perhaps become a permanent un-codified rule that the administrators and decision takers NEVER require sound knowledge on the concerned subjects.

They are selected for other 'qualities', not knowledge.

So, the decisions taken and plans formed with many lacunae and keeping many source of financial and other corruptions.

So, failure and loss of public money is the only possible fate of almost all of such projects.

Both Inferiority and superiority complex have effect on the degradation of scientific level of researchers. But Inferiority complex severely degrade the level of the researchers.

While admitting that superiority complex can negative impact the professional well-being of a researcher, inferiority complex is the most degradating of a researcher's scientific progress.

In my opinion, I think superiority complex pose more danger to scientific research development. Yes when competition is healthy, it could promote quality research but when not, it does terrible damage. Inferiority complex may also lead to under-productivity.

For me, superiority complex is originated out of inferiority complex and both are harmful for our intellectual growth as a positive human being.

IN my opinion, Inferiority complex is more serious than superiority complex.

Psychiatry considers both complexes - as mental deviations, amenable to treatment. Of course, it is difficult to work with such people. However, in one way or another such deviations are manifested in all. Absolutely perfect people do not exist. In other words, there is no perfection in the world.

An inferiority complex, in the fields of psychology and psychoanalysis, is a feeling that one is inferior to others in some way and Superiority complex is a psychological defense mechanism that compensates for an inferiority complex. The term was coined by Alfred Adler as part of his school of individual psychology. It was introduced in his series of books, including "Understanding Human Nature" and "Social Interest".

I also believe that inferiority complex hamper on degradation of scientific researcher but most researchers were highly qualified therefore, i think there are no chances of Superiority complex among the researcher.

I think that the reason for the deterioration of the scientific level is the educational policies in countries where this matter has no strategic dimensions that do not take into account the exits that will be the generations that will come out under the system of this educational policy as well as discouraging scientists to give and development and limited material potential Available to them in implementing their constructive scientific ideas

While inferority complex (a key concept in Adler's Individual Psychology) really exists, there is no complex called superiority complex. It is rather one of the expressions or outlets of inferiority complex, or more precisely a defence mechanism to conceal inferiority complex. In no sense it can be equated with high self-esteem, for instance. Wikipedia correctly defines it as "a psychological defense mechanism that compensates for an inferiority complex."

I personally believe that both of them can be detrimental to the development of scientific research simply because they are rooted in the individual's subjectivity. Scientific research should be free from all sources of subjectivity.

Both are, of course, having their own merits and demerits.

Definitely, the inferiority complex is more damaging and superiority complex lead to nowhere. However, inferiority complex is not common and can be changed with mentoring and proper advice. Superiority complex can sometime damage the very juniors and may also alienate from the peers. Both the complexes are self-created.

I guess these are two extremes and pendulum should stick between the two. Situation management and personalized approach are the best out of any medical and non-medical situation and i term it as " to be the situational manager' DO NOT ASSUME in advance or remorse in retrospect. patients are AFTER ALL patients, and need dignity. But firmness in decision making and guiding you through difficult cases is also needed some add on confidence.

Admit where u lag in understanding and show a little degree of confidence (not preferring the word complex here) in handling conditions where your suety level crosses the significant p-value.

This should and will make your life simple. So i guess this is no question to me. Anyway it generated a pretty good debate.

I think it really depend on where you are talking about. In Africa and other developing economies, an inferiority complex catalyzed by poor infrastructure and output may affect scientific level of researchers. This may not be the same for others in developed economies.

Superiority complex is more dangerous since the person with that attitude is likely to be a bully, not listen to others and hold on to ideas steadfastly even if they have been proved to be wrong.
