We know there are three forms of neurofilaments and release of neurofilaments after axonal damage are prevalent in Multiple Sclerosis patients. My question is in animal model of MS what type of neurofinament will be more relevant to MS and which antibody I have to use?

I would think NF-L would be the most interesting one, since it intermediates between the others. I would also suggest to take in consideration wheteher you want your antibody show the phophorated state as well or not.

In that case you will be the first one to publish your findings. I can tell you this, the course of degeneration in many neuro degenerative diseases are similar. In the past I had done some neurotoxicity studies with arsenic and I found out that the pattern shows similarities with Alzheimer. So, I would suggest to look up some of these studies and do the same experiments but related to your model.

We have used SMI-32 which detects hypophosphorylated NF-H in our studies as a correlate of axonal damage compared with hyperphosphorylated NF-H detected with SMI-35. Can be used either histologicaly or ELISA on spinal cord homeogenates.
