I'm wondering whether it would be a good idea to switch from our current method of centrifugation of Qiagen columns to the QIAVac manifold.
If so, would we need to buy the QIAVac Vacuum system, or can we use one of our pumps that we use to aspirate cell culture waste (including a similar waste collection vessel)?
How important is the vacuum pressure regulation on these systems?
The improvements to workflow would be enormous (especially when we process 24 samples at a time), but I wanted to get some feedback before purchasing, and it's hard to find anything but manufacturer's advertising/propaganda.
I agree with Briony. If your in house vacuum is not powerful enough or fluctuates then you could get poorly washed columns.
We don't have in house vacuum, so we use a vacuum pump for everything anyway. I suspect the vacuum is more powerful, but I think we will forgo the QIVac for now.
