I'm studying on yeast and bacteria. I'd like to equip a new bioreactor. Please give me some name of bioreactor systems for laboratory scale, from 1 to 5 litters, that you usually operate in your lab. The bioreactor is for fermentation purpose, so I have some criterions for the fermenter:
- Method: Batch, fed-batch, continuous.
- Standard sensor and control: DO, temperature, pH, agitation
- Pump: acid (1), base (1), anti-foam (1), feed (2, or 1)
- Air: fresh air, Oxygen.
Additionally, I'm interested in the system that has the slot for preventive sensors (I'm thinking of methanol sensor). If it has some exciting features, please take it for me.

For that, we have a Labfors 5 BioEtOH from INFORS HT to volume of 2 and 5 Liters.
Remember, it is widely recommended a bioreactor jacketed for temperature control.
Dear Trung, I have used biorectors from different companies - New Brunswick Scientific (now purchased by Eppendorf), Sartorius, etc. They are very good and reliable but expensive. You can also have a look at www.fermentorsolution.com. Its an Indian company and is doing good job. We already bought one 100L bioreactor from them.

I have used Fermentor from different companies too - New Brunswick Scientific / NBS (now Eppendorf) with working volume 10 L and I have 100 L working volume from Bioenginering. Fermentor from NBS in my Lab still using manual operation for temperature control (using heater separately and cold water) and my 100 L fermentor is automation. If you want slot for methanol sensor, perhaps you can request that additional parts to the company. I guess in Bioengineering can do it for you, just ask them for your request. And the other company like Sartorius too, you can try to ask them. Hope this info is useful

I cannot compare to other brands but I am not very enthousiastic about the SCADA software of Sartorius

but to the Sartorius users, is the fermentor complicated to install?
We just orderd a BioStat A and Sartorius offers installation (additional charge)

I am used to using a Sartorius once in a month (from another college). It is a 5 liters fermenter. That system is installed easily, but the control software is not good. It takes more steps to set an action, and have-to-use the mouse for every manipulation. I don't remember the code of that bioreactor (sorry about that).
