Actually we are planning to buy some transgenic AD mice (Abeta model) from Jacsons Lab. I want to know which one is a better choice, the 5xFAD or the APP-PS1 double transgenic or the triple transgenic mice. Can anyone suggest which one is easy to maintain?
Recently, we start working with 5xFAD mice, and the best features of these mice is that they breed very well (I can tell how frustrating and time consuming when working with hard to breed mice). Also, we stain brain sections of these mice and there is a lot beta amyloid deposit both in the cortex and hippocampus. The only thing I want you to keep in mind is that these mice might bear RD1 mutation that lead to retinal degeneration (you could select the one that don’t have the mutation). This could be of interest if you well be doing behavior test (because some time I wonder if they are crazy or just blind). Good luck
