Voltage stability analysis by using continuous power flow analysis, transient stability analysis in the equal area criteria and swing equation. I want to know, if any analysis method is available to find both voltage and transient stability at the same time?
The differences between VSA and TSA are their definitions and also type of contingency which are defined clearly in Kundur book. Normally, TSA we look into the rotor angles of the systems' generators after a disturbance and VSA we look into the voltage profiles. The are also indices proposed by researchers for TSA and VSA. I do not think we can do VSA and TSA at the same time because of the difference in parameters that are considered and the type of contingency.
Voltage Stability / Voltage Collapse Problems Issues include Voltage Regulation and Fluctuations due to Reactive Power Balance and Support at Weak Buses during Load Changes Excursions, Faults and Contingencies.
Transient Stability Deals with Electromechanical Modes and Rotor Angle Acceleration / Deceleration during Generation/Load Mismatch.
There is no one Unique Method to Detect both and there is no Unique- Index or definition describing VSA and TSA in an integrated system.
To find a Global Detection Index/Method for both will be a novel contribution!!
Voltage stability is primarily governed by the dynamics of Generation Load mismatch. Also, the transient stability is governed by the extreme system conditions such as load rejection/excess loading. Since the generator is in the case of transient stability experiences oscillations and it may not dampen if the capability of the controls are inadequate. In the case of loading pattern change/generation variation, the bus voltage is affected due to reactive power/real power mismatch. As the voltage stability assessment is linked with power injection statistics at a respective bus, the more the mismatch, the affect on the voltage will be more severe. However, the transient stability can be observed if the generator/group of generators behavior is observed under the same conditions with new technology using PMUs at the generator bus and the data is analyzed in the same window frame. The observation may be noticed in the form of similarity in extreme conditions at the onset of voltage instability and PMUs rotor angle oscillations. Thus, an inference may be drawn that the newer technology may assist in noticing the events concurrently with the above approach. But this may not be possible with the classical model based approach.
You could use modal analysis/participation factor method to analyse both voltage and transient stability issues. However, the variables to use for VSA will be different from TSA. Nevertheless, the procedure will be common for both. A good starting point is Kundur's book on Power system stability and control.
I am not an expert in Power Systems but from what I have known these two stability concepts are really different. Voltage stability is with respect to small fluctuations of bus voltages. Hence the stability is governed by a linear dynamical model. On the other hand transient stability is with respect large load fluctuations hence involves nonlinear nature of swing equations of generators connected together. Lyapunov stability of the equilibrium position of the system is thus relevant for transient stability study. In conclusion these two are different problems.
