I don't understand what do mean exactly, but if you want to know how to enhance the properties of semi conductor as the conductivity for exemple,you know that the intrinsic semiconductor has a relationship with the temperature (thermal annealing) but this parameter has a limit,and the conductivity still low for the industry application, for this the dopage IS a solution for increase the conductivity,and you can too control and know the nomber of dopants in your extrinsic semiconductor
you need determine the properties you want to enhace and you could define the parameters to change in your synthesis.
If you need modify the band gap energy or electron-hole recombination, you can use a doping with cations or anions. For other hand the thermal annealing increase the cristallinity of the semiconductor material but you could generate a second phases.
