Sometimes to absorb or transform a pollutant, there is a formation of secondary pollutant and, often, the most used technology fails in the presence of high concentration of particulate matter.
There are methods to reduce the concentrations of SOx and NOx emitted to the atmosphere. Sometimes we can use "end of pipe" systems in industrial process, like scrubbers with alkalyne solution to reduce SOx concentrations or we can reduce the concentration of sulphur in natural gas, oil or coal used in the combustion processes to reduced the SOx formed in the atmospheric efluents. To reduce NOx, acceptable methods are: the use of low-NOx burners in kilns and boilers or use pure oxygen in the combustion process to generate less NOx, but this second method is expensive.
for sure, changing the process we can change the concentration of SOx and NOx in the effluent, my question is which is the best available technology to deplete both of these pollutant in a high polluted environment.
Catalytic DeNOx (with ammoni injection) is applied in the coal-fired power plants in Germany, Japan Netherlands and this is in an off-gas highly polluted with fly ash.
