While designing the solution in the project, it is very confusing that which approach can be better. It is difficult to integrate the all the task based solutions in the vertical approach.
It differs according to your design idea, horizontal means stable and calm versus vertical is more dynamic and moving effect. Most of the posters are vertical according to their sight area. If you are doing something related with screen so you must use horizontal design solutions.
But that equation has changed through mobile media. Even though we are. able to turn our phones to a horizontal position, most of us still hold them vertically even while watching video. This company, Vertuoso, is totally devoted to vertical design and vertical storytelling. Rather than less-than optimal viewing of images and video designed for horizontal viewing, media is re-purposed or, better yet, originally designed for vertical viewing with different aspect ratio, uses of graphics, especially motion graphics and even durations. https://www.vertuoso.co
I share the thinking of Julio Membreño - are you asking about graphical layout or design process approach? Narinder Handa; Please elaborate to get higher quality answers.
If this is about app/website design (your question is super vague) First you need to understand your users/audience. Who are they and what is their most frequent method of access? Demographics and accessibility also have a part in answering that question. But, as a general rule of thumb for "new" application design, you should be thinking responsive, and mobile first. Mobile first forces you to keep things simpler which is always to the benefit of the user. That said, Like Anna Marie indicated, most people keep their devices portrait unless they are watching a video, which does not require interaction. You can build out a desktop view from this that adds more robust functionality that would not be practical on a mobile device by tagging them in your conditions. But really, you need to develop complete personas about your user population and how they would interact with your product first. Let the research dictate the direction.
It is about the desiging a solution for the client. The client has requirement for data storage, data security and data analytics. We are five people in tye team. So while designing the solution for the client, we are just wondering which approach we should adopt as a time. We are very new to designing the solution. Horizontal approach is that if we will each work on one solution seperately and give the client option of five design. Vertical approach will be working on one solution by dividing that solution jnto taks. So please suggest
Its been my experience that as a team, we come to the best solution for the client and maybe some variation of it, present designs or POC and then work gets divided once the client agrees to the solution.
Respectfully, what most others have said here is true. But to my mind what matters is how people "see" the information you wish to present, and how YOU see it. Some people interpret reality vertically, as in spreadsheets w columns, filled w data points. They can interpret, understand and use info presented vertically--doing so quite quickly and effectively. They start at top, and go to bottom, what they call "the bottom line." I personally, and many others, however, do not see reality in this way, I do not interpret causal connection vertically. Instead, it is within horizontal timelines, for example the first verse in Bible, "In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth." This puts all of us, and our activities and projects, on that timeline. My point: think of how you see, and that of your audience. Then present to that.
Thanks Carolyn Macaluso. You are making so much sense and that is what we have done. We have identified solutions individually and proposed in our project report and did some analysis of all the solution. Now, Client has asked us to implement the Cloud based solution of AWS. so the conclusion is Horizontal approach worked for us this time but it has no set of rules for the design approach.
