We all know that solar radiation dataset is important for studying climate change. Some reanalysis and remote sensing datasets are publicly distributed. The question is that which dataset is the best that shows acceptable accuracy and has enough space-time resolution ? Another problem that might arise is the spatial heterogeneity range of solar radiation.
I agree with you that the weather data extracted from weather stations or any software should not be accurate. Normally I use the meteonorm 7 software, this software is dependable by the building, pv and solar thermal systems software.
NCEP GFS FNL data set is quite accurate as per my experience and its available on different resolutions, 0.25 degree is the most finest available resolution.
