Which cell lines other than neuronal cell lines can be used to study neurodegeneration?

can commonly used cell lines like HEK293 or HeLa not be used for this purose?

HEK293 are much more robust, e.g. they can handle modest calcium overload much better than neuronal cells. You could have a look at beta-cells, their degeneration has quite some features of neurodegeneration.
