I cant seem to find any good structural papers talking about the exact residues of each of VP1, 2, and 3 that are solvent exposed.
From what I've read it sounds like VP1 and VP3 are both partially exposed where the N-terminus of VP1 up to the end of the VP1/VP2 overlap is generally inside the capsid until conformation change during endo-lysosome maturation. VP2 is not exposed at all. VP3, a small portion of n-terminus I would imagine is not exposed or the whole thing is fully exposed. Anyone got some good papers that are a bit more definitive?

Yeah not very intuitive to understand how hard it is to map the contribution of each individual VP to the overall structure. I think the attached paper would have a few clues, havent quite gotten around to reading it carefully.
I also saw a review of capsid engineering from around ~2012-2016 where Samulski pointed out this problem and provided some amount of clarity from his years of experience in modifying capsids, but I cant seem to find the paper anymore...
