The Mycology Unit of Universitat Rovira i Virgili (Reus, Catalonia, Spain) is an excellent research group working on systematics of clinical and environmental fungi. Some outstanding scientists who have worked (or currently work) there are Drs. Josep Guarro, Javier Pastor, Josepa Gené, Josep Cano, Alberto Stchigel and Maria José Figueras, among others.

One of the leading institutions i found was the Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute (Utrecht, Netherlands). As described in their webpage, the Westerdijk Institute "...performs highly innovative mycological research that contributes to the discovery and understanding of fungi and its biodiversity and potential solutions to societal challenges."

It is so clear that Westerdijk Fungal Biodiversity Institute (Utrecht, Netherlands) is one of the best institutes in mycology field in the world.

Another institution i found was the Department of Forest Mycology and Plant Pathology at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU, Uppsala, Sweden). The department "undertakes fundamental and applied research focused on interactions involving plants, pathogenic, symbiotic and saprotrophic fungi and other microorganisms and their role in forest and agricultural systems", as said at their webpage.
