I am carrying out grain size analyses of lime mud samples. I would like to know the effect of hydrogen peroxide treatment to remove organic matter on the calcium carbonate particles. whether there will be any considerable size reduction happen due to any kind of reaction between H2O2 and CaCO3
The pH of 30% of hydrogen peroxide is between 3 and 4. So, depending on the concentration of H2O2 used, the dissolution of CaCO3 will vary, which may have an effect on the size of grains.
So, I would suggest you monitor the pH of your solution and buffer it accordingly to a pH of ~7.
It may be possible that a Ca Percarbonate could form as an adduct. Theoretically similar to Na Carbonate + HP = Na Percarbonate. CaCO3 hydrates exist in nature and a percarbonate is the substitution of H2O by HP. I would not look too much into PHs (HP can range from acid to alkaline depending on several factors) I would say that a condition in neutral PH would be more effective.
