What is the appropriate measure of "labor productivity in agriculture" ? Can Population census data be used to obtain such measure? What is the official data source for labor productivity in agriculture? And how the total labor force in agriculture can be computed "more precisely" as the state level measure?

You can also try US Bureau of Labor statistics, especially the following link:

If that does not work, get labor data from labor force survey and calculate some measure of productivity as value added in agriculture per labor hour worked etc.

Why don't you look at the agricultural census? They have information on land holdings and inputs at a relatively disaggregated level. You would then need to merge this information with some measure of output.

Agricultural Economics Research Centers of the Ministry of Agriculture collect regular data on productivity which is worth exploring. Also cost of cultivation data through agriculture universities collect for Agricultural Price Commission could be a source if this is openly available ( if not should make a case for RTI) at least for research purposes.
