I Wish you (and all RG members) the best of health, happiness, and success in the coming year. Happy New Year.
We do not have official holiday at this time of year. We celebrate Norouz (March,21st, the first day of spring) as the first day of new year. I have not decided yet, but I may even come to Azerbaijan at that time :)
I wish all the RG members a very and prosperous 2016
Coming back to your question Shafagat , most of the times on holiday special with family , but every year , such things are not possible , like this year , we are preferring to stay back . What about you Shafagat.
As Dear Dr. Behrouz Ahmadi-Nedushan said, we don't have official holiday at this time of year in Our country (Iran). Instead, we have Norouz holiday as new year holiday in the first day of spring-March,21st. On that time, I want to go to mountain area.
I wish you and all of members RG a Happy New Year!
I would like to spend my holiday in the sun! May you and your family prosper in health, wealth and peace at the coming New Year! I wish you and all RG members a very happy holiday season and prosperous 2016.

In central govt offices/organizations of India, we don't have long holidays. Since I am presently posted in Dehradun situated in a hill state i.e. Uttarakhand (India), there are lots of places with immense scenic beauty. On 1st Jan being weekend holiday, I am planning to visit a nearby Waterfall named Sahatradhara (means thousand springs) alongwith my family.
First of all, I would to wish all the RG members a very happy and prosperous 2016.
Secondly, I love travelling and visiting to places in holidays. So many places are to visit in this world where you want to go, it's about your taste what you like it.
1.lovely Place.
2.Greenery.
3.Nature.
4.Wild Life.
5.Adventure
I love and wish to visit Japan. I am planning to see it and to spend few days there!!!
First of all, Seasons Greetings & Happy New Year for all RG colleagues.
I really like to travel & I have an old wish to visit India & Kenya to see nature at its best. However, my financial situation doesn't allow me to fulfill this wish. There are nearly no savings due to responsibilities & due to high living costs here. Our salaries, as university lecturers, are lower than the salaries of persons who work in construction of buildings or in singing!!
Planning in advance is the best way to get the holiday you want.* The earlier you start to plan, the more holiday options you'll have to choose from AND the more likely you are to find what you’re looking for. So why doesn’t everyone do it? Here's a few of the most common reasons that you may think you can't plan in advance:
You’re not sure when you can travel
You’re not sure where you want to go
You don’t know when it’s the best time to deposit and exchange
You don’t want to book too far in advance and have to cancel
I spend holidays at home with my family, wife and son, who is a university students. Thank you for your best wishes of the coming near of 2016!
I wish you the same if not more, health, happiness, success and prosperity to your lives that are contagious to others so that peace and collective well being continues stronger in the world. It was indeed an extraordinary year for all of us who are members of RG and participate in discussions on every issue that arises or a potential to become one on the surface of the earth that challenges mankind, sharing knowledge, scientific ideas and evolved global understanding to make earth smaller than ever before.
After working days, a minor change comes to our routine of working during weekends. But holidays bring the days of festivity or recreation when no work is done; major change comes in routine of working during holidays. Hence, it is essential to spend a holiday in a specified place. A good question - where to spend. To celebrate as festivity or make it recreational depends upon many constraints varying due to circumstances. Therefore, every one of us please do not miss to plan your holidays to your level best to bring festivity and recreation.
Joining Dr. Shafagat Mahmudova, Dr. Dejenie A. Lakew, Dr. Barbara Sawicka, Dr. Abdul aziz Jaafar, Tatsuo Tabata, Dr. Fateh Mebarek-Oudina and other members of on this question thread: for wishing you A VERY HAPPY AND PROSPEROUS YEAR 2016.
To all RG members, please do fully enjoy your CHRISTMAS & NEW YEAR'S holidays in festive and recreational mood.
The last few years I have spent in my hometown, with my people. I know it does not seem very glamorous, but have discovered the way to live in peace with the people I love and who love me, even if it seems corny, it has been very important in my life. So much so that seeming routine days, really are on holiday.
Happy new year to all RG friends with my best wishes of success, happiness and good health. Dear Shafagat, unfortunately in my country, there are no holidays, only for education and universities staffs. Research institutes are not custom with winter and spring holidays. in fact in my country there is no culture of holidays, even the religious ones are only 2 days if they do not meet with week ends days, if the Eid el adha or Eid ending Ramadan meets with the week end days, no holidays. As researchers we have only 1 mouth of holidays in summer season.
I wish to spend my holidays with my family (in India) in Palampur - in Himachal Pradesh. It is a valley surrounded by snow capped mountains with natural springs known locally as 'kools'. There trekking or walking in the wooded forests or sitting close to the natural water resources - just came back today from Palampur after four days stay.
Wishing you a year that is filled with all the fragrance of roses, illuminated with all the lights of the world and be blessed with all the smiles on the planet. Hope this year will be the year when all your dreams come true. Happy New Year 2016.
I thank you for the question and unlike most I do not enjoy spending that much time at all with my family. In fact I ran away from home at 15 and have not looked back sense. Sure we run into each other from time to time but it is not a pleasurable experience even to this day. Sense I have left I have had the pleasure of spending the holidays with complete strangers and that is what a truly enjoy.
As to where geographically? There can be only one place and that is Santa Cruz , California with a set of golf clubs, friends and attack par at Pebble Beach golf and country club then sneaking over to play Cypress Point.
While at Palampur (in Himachal Pradesh, India) I visited a Monastery at a nearby place. It was so serene and peaceful there that I have mentally made up my mind to visit that place again with more time at hand - probably stay there for a few days to soak in the peace and serenity of the place.
Rather than the noisy place I think such a place and the memories of the place will be enriching.
Sending good wishes to you and all RG members for health and happiness in 2016.
I prefer to split my holiday time, if possible, between family (and usually drama) and time alone (to recuperate from the drama). Any place in nature be it a forest, the desert, the sea or a sacred/historical site nourishes my body/mind/spirit. This New Year's day, I attended a much needed restorative yoga class that, in addition to asanas, included special placement of essential oils, mudras, poetry, nidra, chanting, music, guided meditation, and an honoring of Genesha. It was sublime.
We quite often go to the Temple Cities of Dwarka / Somnath, which are situated in the Indian State of Gujarat, and stay there for couple of days. Both are coastal cities and are known for the temples of Dwarkadhish, the Lord of Dwarka ( Krishna), and Lord Somnath, another name for Lord Shiva, at Somnath. In addition to these, both the places have a lot of sea-coast, where I normally enjoy sitting for hours together looking at the mighty sea and its savage beauty.
