I learned that heart endothelial cells are directly facing artery blood and supported by non-cell basement membrane.

Thus it makes sense to me that it is more efficient for endothelial cells to take up nutrients from right neighboring blood than from interstitial fluid, because the for the later nutrients need to pass through the extra basement membrane.
