Our research group is interested in purchasing purified influenza virus H1N1 (A/PR/8/34) for research purposes. I was wondering if someone can suggest me sources where it can be purchased other than Advanced Biotechnologies Inc?
(Charles River offers human influenza type A and B viruses, as well as Sendai virus (Cantell strain), supplied as allantoic fluid and sucrose gradient-purified.)
Thank you, Nitya. I think the Sino Biological link is for Influenza H1N1 hemagglutinin protein and neuraminidase protein. Anyways, I will check with the company if they have purified virus. Thanks again.
I can undercut the Advanced Biotechnologies price by half*. . . :)
More seriously, you could also try NIBSC. They produce this type of thing and are a not-for-profit agency. Although the link below may not be quite what you're looking for, it might be worth contacting them.
How much do you need and for what purpose? If it's for research rather than commercial purposes then scrounging/collaborating with an academic lab that works with flu might be easier and cheaper (PR8 is not hard to grow or purify for those that do this sort of thing). If you need QC'd stuff for legal/commercial purposes then NIBSC would still be appropriate. Read the small print though; I notice that the two batches Advanced Bio offer differ in particle titre by ~ 10-fold with the lower titre stuff having nearly three times the amount of protein. So either their TEM counts are out or the batches have widely differing purities. . .
