I emailed a person in Greece that used MS-MUTV in one of their publications. They did not add Potassium Tellurite to the medium. Very few publications seem to use this medium. I think this is because one of the antibiotics included in the medium, valinomycin, is very toxic. The oral LD50 for rats is 4 mg/kg and it can be absorbed through the skin with an LD50 of 5 mg/kg in rabbits.
We utilized this medium with dental plaque samples to isolate Streptococcus mutans. The medium is very selective and it is quite easy to identify which colonies are S. mutans. The only negative aspects of using this medium are the cost and the toxicity of valinomycin. The medium performed as described in the paper Takada and Hirasawa paper.
