I am currently working on the methodology part of my dissertation, and I have chosen a questionnaire as the instrument for my quantitative research method. I have asked the author for permission, and she replied that it is a questionnaire for the public.
In her study, she used the confirmatory factor analysis method to analyse the data from this questionnaire, in order to validate her model.
However, My research purpose is not to validate the model but to explore how the subject i am studying influences my participants. So my problem is, can i use this questionnaire to collect data and analyse it with a descriptive analysis method?

You can conduct a pilot study then assess general validity and reliability without confirmatory factor analysis. After that you can conduct the questionaire for your target population and it prefered to reassess general validity and reliability. After that you can make descriptive statistics.
I agree to the opinion of other scholars but if it is for finalising on Root Cause Analyses to reach the problem /solution statement, one must apply and check that it doesn't impact the study objective initially taken. No doubt it can be more comprehensive but the most valuable thing is "Time" - The research must go on but it should be timely locked to reach a decision for implementing and execution to check on the results.
