Dear all, one of my difficulties when I am planning my survey design is to decide which questionnaires I should include. The literature is full of evidence showing relationships between so many variables. Looking at the schizophrenia literature, I got the impression that almost anything can cause or be related to schizophrenia. The difficult question that pops up in my mind and I am unable to answer is: what has not been shown to be related to schizophrenia? But, I think this problem is not only in schizophrenia, but in clinical psychology as a whole.

Therefore, I would like to ask: have there been examples of well-known or well-accepted wrong theory/hypothesis/explanations? If yes, how did it become accepted to be wrong?
