Before trying different approaches I want to ask the experts in here!
- Is it necessary a supersaturated solution of β-CD? In the literature the amount of β-cyclodextrin always exceeds its solubility. Why?
- Are cyclodextrins able to form host-guest complexes with hydrophilic molecules? Or just hydrophobic molecules?
- Will the precipitate be crystalline and visibly colored? how should the precipitate be washed?
Dear Martina Cerreti , I´m far from being an expert on β-CDs, but may be you find useful this information.
Supersaturated solutions of β-CD are not necessary, but when you want to form aa many inclusion complex as you can to displace some molecule, this is a way to be sure that you have the maximum possible complexing hosts. Furthermore, if complexes precipitate then the extra amount of β-CD will be dissolved and be ready to form new complexes till the guest molecules are completely depleted from the solution (or till the excess of β-CD runs out).
-Most β-CD have a hydropilic outer shell and an hydrophobic inner hole, but they can also be modified chemically to form amphiphilic holes. Sometimes they are combined with other components like polisaccharided (chitosan) to improve interactions and favouring formation of nanoparticles.
