Hi dear colleagues,

No doubt, the Great Wall of China is the most recognizable symbol in the world and is one of the most extensive construction projects ever completed. Originally conceived by Emperor Qin Shi Huang (c. 259-210 B.C.) in the third century B.C. It came to function more as a psychological barrier between Chinese civilization and the world, and remains a powerful symbol of the country’s enduring strength. However, it is knwon that the treatment of soil with lime is a very old practice, as evidenced by traditional clay concretes (clay + sand + lime) and more dramatically, the Great Wall of China is a compacted mixture of clay and lime.

It is quite clear that the Great Wall of China was built through the mountain peaks. This led me to ask the question about the foundation system that was adopted to ensure the stability of the constructed wall against various factors that can affect its stability such as landslides.

Thank you in advance
