Honestly this is a tall order. We have developed into a race that wastes a lot of resources when they are available to them. So we need to really do an about turn to live within our means with minimum resources. What we should do is inculcate from the very childhood the values into the people in order to bring sustainability.

1. Use minimum resources for every activity that we do starting with the children.

2. Live with as little resources and materials that are required for comfortable living.

3. Buy and stock only enough for your living (no hoarding)

4. Use as far as possible locally produced groceries, goods and services.

5. Have empathy for your fellow beings.

6. Make each community as self-supporting as possible.

7. Develop the habit of reuse and recycling.

8. Habit of sharing.

Example:

Many people in Asia believe in reincarnation, for instance coming back on this world in another life. This perception of the world might have significant consequences how you want to manage future environments for future generations, including future environments in which you will live in a future life.

I believe commitment and honesty are the main values that should be nurtured in people to enhance sustainable development. Awareness of the causes of sustainable development is very essential.

I think that for this objective we need related education for some generations. But always there will be people who do not respect these values. A characteristic example are the golden boys of wall street!

I think that to enhance sustainable development, values of work moral and willing to learn should be nurtured in people.

As you all know, It is not only simply a question of 'willingness to learn', but also 'how to learn' (e.g. not excluding others also willing to learn) and 'what to learn' (e.g. short term visions not taking future generations into account versus long-term visions taking future generations into account).

If i may add values need to nurture for sustainability are caring and responsibility as the need of human to social need balancing individual needs.

Caring comes from awareness condition surrounding on polution,exploitation and destruction of natural resources,waste that can be reuse and recycle.

Responsibility arise before you're asking of you right, how do you keep sustainability not only in mind but also in action to keep it sustainable as throwing garbage into the the right trash bin.

Even as the number of answers to this question were less than usual, but I must say they are all rich. Dear Marcel's hope for re-incarnation beliefs of Asians is a powerful point towards building and sustaining the requisite values, if the rulers can shape societal behaviors on those beliefs.
