I do not think your list covers all types of supervisors. There can be supervisors who inspire are supportive but also leave their students alone until needed. At it is the last point which is probably the most important.

Difficult to very much get along with the supervisor who claims to know everything and who is ignorant..... the rest is fine if there is an anger or aggressive it is for the good outcome.....

Friendly approach is good but in few cases it may not have proper results..

Authority and demand has to be executed at the right time for the desired outcome....

3. Supervisor should have sound knowledge of questionnaire designing

4. Supervisor should have sound knowledge of data analysis

5. Supervisor should motivate to students to do original research with some support too

I think 2,3,4,6,9 may be the qualities for a good guide/supervisor.

I prefer no.4 supervisor.

My Phd supervisor has all of the above options except 1 and 4.At last it took God to deliver my thesis and graduation.I feel people should carefully and prayerfully take time to select who to work with.Maybe i didn't pray enough before choosing him...Lols, its all testimony today anyway!

To me there are 2 types of supervisors. The first type are the caring type who will walk you trough your study and mentor you into graduation. The second type are the horrible ones, who will not help you much except to criticize you in a humiliating way when you have made a mistake. The truth is that you need both

In my opinion, any supervisor which he or she can show and teach each to the right direction of knowledge. Because every person they have their own way of understanding about knowledge and culture. In principle we can not change others but we have to have change our-self.

Dealing with supervisor is a big task especially in above case. Student should be highly disciplined and systematic in his/her approach.
