1) what do you mean by genetic structure? Population structure? genome organization?

2) Which kind of organism are you talking about? is a very different answer in each of the domains of life. Also if polyploidy is present in your organism, the answer might change.

You can check many publications in ecological adaptation, ecological morphology, and evolutionary ecology. That might help you understand the patterns.
