Every supervision is unique: it varies depending on the circumstances of the student, the research he/she plans to do, and the relationship between the supervisor and the student. Thus, in dealing with a range of situations, a supervisor may severally act as a facilitator, guide, mentor, and source of information to the student as he/she progresses. Notwithstanding, recurring tasks involve helping the student:
- Become familiar with the literature and wider research community in his/her field of interest;
- Formulate the question of the research project;
- Decide the qualitative and/or quantitative research methods to use;
