Pakistan has over 29% inflation and its economy is in a Tsunami. Faced with a shortage of US dollars, Pakistan only has enough foreign currency in its reserves to pay for three weeks of imports. In last month's elections, independent candidates backed by Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ended up winning 93 National Assembly seats, defying all odds and the military's will. But it could not win enough seats to form a majority government on its own. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) of Nawaz Sharif came in second with 75 seats, followed by the Pakistan People's Party (PPP) of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari with 54 seats. Finally it was Sharif as the Prime Minister; PPP co-chair Asif Ali Zardari as Deputy. . Political polarisation in Pakistan is at an all-time high and the military is facing a challenge unlike any in recent times. Khan and his supporters, buoyed by their remarkable electoral performance, will ensure that any meaningful governance is almost impossible in the absence of some kind of political reconciliation.

On the other hand US had no choice but to issue a statement despite clear evidence of rigging, & called the Pakistan elections "clearly competitive".
