I am interested in getting to the mechanism-level of the impact of aerobic/goal-directed exercise on the motor/non-motor aspects of Parkinson's Disease, specifically in new onset, de novo individuals. As I am completely "new" to neuroimaging methods (coming from a Physical Therapy background), I am trying to make my way through the volumes of literature on neuroimaging and brain ROI which has become daunting. I'm seeking information related to looking at "internally triggered" neuro pathways and structures (ie. cortico-striatal-thalamo-cortico) versus "externally triggered" pathways (more cortico-cortical) pathways and what neuroimaging techniques (MR/PET) will get me closest to a mechanistic view.
